OTHER NEWS: THE RULES had its first small production in New York in February directed by the fantastic Cynthia Silver. BLOWN YOUTH, an all female riff on Hamlet commissioned by Barnard College and New Georges is being published by Playscripts and will receive university productions this fall at Illinois Wesleyan and Cornish Universities. This spring my work was included at reading series’ with the Classical Theatre of Harlem, Poetic Theatre, Western Michigan University where I was the Gwen Frostic Series guest and my short play In the Red, White and Blue will feature in the Boston Theatre Marathon.
I am utterly delighted to be the inaugural recipient of the Shakespeare’s Sister Playwriting Fellowship. The prize, in Ellen McLoughlin’s words, is to facilitate the creation of “an entirely new kind of play than a playwright would ever have been able to write without it.”
The Fellowship partners with three wonderful organizations; A Room of Her Own, the Lark and Hedgebrook to create a structure over a year that will support a new work from gestation through writing.
I am thrilled!
Read all about the Fellowship here.
I’m also so proud to be part of two new wonderful circles of theatre folks!
THE RULES had an outing at the Playwrights Festival at White Heron Theatre Nantucket, directed by Aaron Rossini
And I’m happy to announce my play PASSING was named a finalist for the Leslie Scalapino Award.
I’m halfway through my residency now at the Sitka Island Institute and it’s been a privilege to live, share stories and develop new work here with the writers at the Blue Canoe Writers Group. This is Sitka…
